Mexico Maps

OK I have been convinced to buy the Church's Mexico Guide, I am on my way this mornigng to Barnes and Noble!
We will be in Mexico for a few days this month, I was wondering what maps would you recomend to purchase while there? The purpose of the maps will be for travel on the west coast as far as Acapulco in Dec. Is the Guia Roji atlas the one?
Thanks in advance!

RE: Violence in Morelia

Read about the "terrorist attack" this morning. Whatever the reason for this attack, which I am sure will come to light later, now brings more safety issues to address.
It does concern us although our plans for Mexico have not changed.
I believe it would be safest not to attend any fiestas or rally's where govt. officials, governors, mayors, police chiefs may be present.
Situational awarness is of the upmost importance in Mexico and anywhere one might be when they are out of their environment.
One cannot always avoid it but one cannot afford to ignore it!

RE: Tepic to Acapulco

mexbungalos, thanks for the info. I do appreciate all the input from everyone, I know that one persons opinion and experience can very, that being said I have traveled Mex 1 in Baja many times and I can say that road is a challenge! Especially with a rig my size and oncomming semi's. But we keep returning.
We really want to see the 200 coast line so I think we will travel it on the return, slowly and by then we will have talked to many locals and RVers we have met along the way.
Traveling through Guadalajara which would be the best road to drop down towards Acapulco? It has been since the sixties since I have been to Acapulco, when my dad drove us from Mexico City to Acapulco.

RE: Tepic to Acapulco

Thanks for the replys!
I have driven from Tepic to Puerto Vallarta but that was 1974,in a pick-up camper, I am sure conditions have changed. Also I know that the colonial towns are beautiful have been to many, my Mom was from San Juan De Los Lagos Jalisco.
My main concerns are with a 40 DP and toad how tough would it be? The condition of the road would matter also. How much further or longer is one route vs the other?
I think we will travel one south and the other north, I agree there will be plenty of beauty in both.
I would like to hear any recomendations of places to stay between Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta, and the Guadalajara route.
I have never owned a Church Mexico Guide, but I think it might be a wise investment for this trip. My worry about the guide is it is probably somewhat outdated at this time.

Tepic to Acapulco

Contemplating taking carretera 200 from Tepic to Acapulco, how is the road? We will be in a 40 footer with toad. Are there RV parks within that route to spend the night?
Thanks in advance!

RE: Reviving the thread

rocmoc,
what size dish are you using? I swithced over to Dish network last year and have not taken it SOB. I have however taken Direct and with large dish could receive signal as far as Loreto, Baja.
We have a dish 500, it has two LNB's Does your larger dish accomadate two LNB's. Maybe when we head south to Mazatlan I'll take it.

RE: Wifi signal booster

Fizz, I think I will go with that idea! I just need to find an inexpensive usb wifi adapter. I can mount this outside the RV and point it at the wifi source in the RV park. I think that should get me the signal inside the RV.
Any suggestions on where to purchase an inexpensive usb wifi adapter?
Again thanks to everyone!

RE: Wifi signal booster

It would be helpful if, in these posts, people would specify that a product is one of the following:
thanks
I must admit that I have been a little confused, but I think I get it?
With my internal wifi and antenna i probably should go with
#1. external wifi adapter, typically USB-connected, which can be located away from, and can replace, an internal wifi adapter
I want to place the antenna outside the Rv for the best reception.
Airlink AWLL3055 USB Wi-Fi adapter, I called Frys and they said they had nothing under $70.00
Can the WiFire be extended to outside the RV?

RE: Wifi signal booster

Do the external antennas mentioned boost the existing internal antenna I have built in my laptop or does it replace it? If it replacess it will software have to be added?
thanks for all the replys!!!!!!!

Wifi signal booster

I will be staying in an RV park for a couple months that has free wifi. I have been told that the signal is not strong enough to use in the RV. Will a wifi signal booster be the answer here? Which one will work best with my laptop, which has a built-in wifi antena? we want to use Skype and would like to leave computer on to receive calls.
Thanks

RE: When ya leaving? Where ya crossing?

I'd recommend that you cross into Baja at Tecate and take Mex-3 to Ensenada. You bypass the whole TJ mess and the toll section of Mex-1, plus you get to visit the beautiful 'wine valley' area of Baja.
Thanks for the advice, but we cross at TJ all the time. It is easier based on where we live and I have got the turns and exits down pretty good. I will return via valle guadalupe and cross at Tecate just to take in that scenic part of Baja I have yet to see.

RE: When ya leaving? Where ya crossing?

We will be leaving Calif. on the 28th of November crossing at Lukeville and heading to Celestino RV resort for Dec and Jan. return home for a short spell then head into Baja about the middle of March crossing at TJ returning the first week in May.
By the way we just spent five wonderful weeks in Canada mostly in forest service rec. sites, just crossed back to US today eh.

RE: Booking Celestino RV

Sorry, guess I missed it but where is the Celestino RV Campground?
Thanks,
Preston in KY
I believe Cellistino RV park is 45 miles north of Mazatlan.

RE: Just to make it perfectly clear now...

Two different animals. You can find a little of Baja on the mainland a little of the mainland in Baja. In my opinion scenery, geography, and isolation (which is decreasing every year) are the biggest differences.
As much as you enjoyed Baja, I think you will enjoy the Mainland also.

RE: Dish Network in Canada

Thanks for all the info.
The web site above is GREAT. Another member gave me this web site
http://www.dishpointer.com/
which gives all coordinates for my dish500. One can use postal codes, by city or by longtitude & latitude.
Again thanks to all, got the info I need.

RE: Dish Network in Canada

Trailer Trash 2, I was unaware that you were the post police! But to answer your question, I never received an answer to my OP in regards to the postal code vs the zip code! I thought this forum would be better suited to get that answer. None of the posts you are bringing to my attention (like I haven't read them) do not address that question.

Dish Network in Canada

We will be spending about five weeks in Canada camping.
Will I be able to get the coordinates to set the satellite by using the Canadian postal codes instead of U.S. zip code?

RE: RV Insurance yet again

We insure our RV with Proggressive, they include Mexico comp/collision. So all we do is purchase Mexican liablility which is cheap. Not sure if Progressive insures Canadian vehicles though??? Worth looking into.
